Artworks that made an impression:
Warren Isensee
Body and Soul, 2007
Oil on canvas
This is the first picture that caught my eye as soon as I stepped into the room, the colors incorporated into the shapes make it look like a maze. It definitely made an impression on me by all the colors ranging from bright to dark.
Sam Francis
Blue-black, 1952
Oil on canvas
Like the first painting, this artwork made an impression due to the color. I have said that I love bright colors that catch my eye but I also love the dark, dreary colors. The dark middle wight the blue, red, and yellow fade in the background remind me of the sea, and I love the brightness on the edges of the dark middle.
Artworks I feel connection with:
Olivier Mosset
Untitled, 2002
Acrylic on canvas
I felt a connection with this because as soon as I saw it I thought of my childhood and playing tic-tac-toe with my friends. It brought back funny memories and made a positive impact on me.
Fred Tomaselli
Echo, Wow and Flutter, 2000
This one always makes a connection with me because it goes back to my childhood. I had a game that had different color tacks and a black board with a light underneath and you could create shapes and lines with different colors.
Artworks I would like to know more about:
Marisol
Baby Girl, 1963
This made me question why is there a baby's face put onto something that looks like a pumpkin shaped object. Also where the idea of a baby's face came in mind in creating with this kind of object.
Nancy Dwyer
Kill Yourself, 1989
This caught my eye in a negative way, it made me question why this artist would put something so harsh and put it around bubbles and in cartoon lettering. What made this artist take the happy things from a childhood and mix it with very hurting words.

I think you picked a good bunch of art works for this project. I like to look at "Echo, wow, and Flutter." Its so whimsical and colorful, plus it plays with your eyes with all of the moving lines and shapes. I agree with you 100% on the art piece "Kill Yourself." I wonder what the artist was thinking when they wrote that. If you didn't know the English language, you would see that painting as a positive piece with the bright colors and bubbles. It definitely makes you think. Great Job!
ReplyDelete1. The first image Kayla used called Body and Soul, she used as art that made an impression on her and I had used this art work as something I had felt connected with. The art work did leave an impression on me but i felt more connected to it then it just leaving a feeling which she probably had felt otherwise. It wasnt as great as an impact or a feeling of relationship with this art piece.
ReplyDelete2. Unfortunetly, I was kind of lost in the museum I didnt know how to get to some sections of the museum so I didnt get to see everything! But this piece of artwork that she has an image of "kill yourself" really strikes me and I agree I would love to know more about this artist and why he took into his own hands to make a cartoon of such a serious matter. It looks like writing you would find on Spongebob or something.
I like Body and Soul as well. Of all the works of art you chose I liked this one the most. I did not get a chance to see these paintings and other works in person so it was good to see what images you liked from your visit. I agree with you on your opinion on Kill Yourself. I don't understand what the artist is trying to portray and why she chose to use bubbles and the colors. Not the kind of text I would expect with the shapes and colors she used. I like your collection you chose from your visit. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI think I understand Nancy Dwyer's work. My interpretation is that words may seem pretty and harmless, but you really have to think about what the other person is saying. Or the meaning behind the words.
ReplyDeleteI think that Kill Yourself is meant to shock the viewer, and make them think about the things that they say to other people. For instance, something said as a joke may actually really hurt someone's feelings. You should always be careful of what you say.
Kayla, I think 'spirograph' was the game in question on the image in ' Echo Wow and Flutter' either way the image is familiar to me also . I looked at the tic-tac-toe board and thought it is a better art piece than game. I was happy to have missed the " Kill Yourself" piece. It may be that the artist is looking for a reaction and hoping for some positive response, however it is not my style either. Good feedback, regards
